Title: Investigation of Dose Rate Effects in Electron-beam Initiated Polymerization
Abstract: Property changes can occur in materials synthesized via electron-beam (EB) polymerization when the rate at which the initiating dose is delivered is altered, (i.e., dose rate effects). These dose rate effects are problematic in industry where many new formulations are tested on a slower pilot line, then scaled up to manufacturing belt speeds. Some formulations appear more prone to dose rate effects than others. The objectives of this research were to identify monomer formulations for which dose rate effects are significant and to determine the impact of dose rate on the glass transition temperature (Tg) and conversion of the resulting polymer films.
