Title: Modeling Flood Mitigation and Storm Sewer Improvement Techniques in Kalona, IA

Abstract: A comprehensive hydraulic model of the City of Kalona within the English River Watershed was built to test basin-scale flood mitigation techniques. Included in the model is the highland areas which drain through the town, the town itself, and floodplains separating the town and the English River, as well as storm sewers, drainage ditches, and major streams. Research is still ongoing, with best management techniques to be modeled include storm water detention basins and modified storm sewers.
